Our full range of towbars are type approved for UK cars and vans. Type approval insures that the towbar is suitable for use with that particular vehicle and has been designed and manufactured to strict procedures. Therefore, it is a legal requirement for a modern towbar to have a type approval number. This must be fixed in a visible position. Without this number it is illegal to tow with and will invalidate your insurance.

Can I fit a towbar to my vehicle?
Providing your vehicle has mounting points and a towing weight. Then yes you can in some cases even vehicles with-out a towing weight can have a cycle rack only towbar fitted.
To find your towing weight first locate your VIN plate. On the VIN plate there should be 3 or 4 weights. The top weight is Gross Vehicle Weight, this is the Maximum allowable mass of the vehicle including passengers, fuel and luggage. The 2nd weight is the Gross Train Weight this is the combined maximum allowable weight of the vehicle and trailer/caravan. The 3rd and 4th weights are the maximum axel weights for the front and rear respectively. Therefore, to calculate your towing weight minus the Gross Vehicle Weight from the Gross Train Weight. All towbars that we supply come with fitting instructions from the manufacturer. You can request to see the fitting instructions before-hand by messaging us or in some-cases the instructions are available for download on the product page. This should give you some idea to the work that is involved. This should help you determine if is better for you to look at getting your towbar fitted and supplied at the same time. Instead of fitting it yourself. Please bear in mind also that to tow legally on the roads you will need to also fit and install suitable towing electrics to your vehicle.
Types of Towbars
- Fixed Flange
The most commonly used in the UK. Furthermore, usually the cheapest option. You will find the tow ball attached to the tow bar using bolts.
- Detachable Flange
Works in a very similar way to the fixed flange. You will find the neck removable from the bar using a lock and key. The tow ball is still attached to the neck with bolts.
- Fixed Swan Neck
They are less adaptable than flange tow bars as they cannot be used with additional accessories. However, usually looks more discreet than a Fixed Flange towbar.
- Detachable Swan Neck
Similar to the fixed swan neck, but can detach when not in use. Cycle carriers can be used, but cannot tow at the same time.
- Retractable Swan Neck
Are perfect if you regularly use your tow bar and value the design of your vehicle. All you need is one simple hand movement and it is ready to use again.

If you have not already visit our towbars shop page. On there, you can find what you need add it to the basket and pay. Shipping is usually one to two working days. Except for Aragon bars please allow 5-7 working days if you choose one of them. Furthermore, if you order electrics they can be delivered separately so please expect more than one delivery/package.
